This first meeting of two like-minded experimentalists took place in April of 2024, when St. Louis-based double bassist Damon Smith and Chicago-based guitarist Chad M. Clark converged to record a set at the repurposed home of artist Theaster Gates. While many in North America were outdoors observing a solar eclipse, the two players hunkered down with Chicago kingpin Todd Carter at the board to find common ground in re-casting orders of rhythm and sound into a quicksilver kind of musical polyphony.
